Shubman Gill-led India have named their squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka. The contest will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.

The  big news in the India camp is return of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in India colours for the first-time since January 2026, when he featured in an ODI against New Zealand. Jadeja sustained a tennis elbow injury in May and has missed cricketing action since.

Sai Sudarshan and Jasprit Bumrah are a part of the squad but their availability is subject to fitness.

    Squad:

Shubman Gill (c), KL Rahul (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan*, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Jasprit Bumrah*, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain

*Bumrah and Sudarshan’s availability is subject to fitness.

KL Rahul is Gill’s deputy and will play an important role in the batting line-up alongside Gill, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Dhruv Jurel. The squad also features Devdutt Padikkal as an additional batter.

Jadeja will be the most experienced spinner in the group, with support from Kuldeep Yadav. Washington Sundar was not available for selection in the first Test, but India will have spin-bowling all-rounders in the form of Manav Suthar, who made his debut in June, and Saransh Jain.

If Bumrah is fit, he will lead the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj, with support from Prasidh Krishna and Punjab pacer Gurnoor Brar.

Mohammed Siraj has broken Australia’s massive partnership, claiming the wicket of Travis Head on Day 2 at The Oval.

India will look to overcome their recent struggles in Test cricket which has seen them lose series to New Zealand (home), <a href="https://absafricatv9491.live-website.com/resilient-tanzania-edge-south-africa-in-closely-contested-group-b-opener-1/" title="Resilient Tanzania edge <a href="https://absafricatv9491.live-website.com/tanzania-face-uphill-task-against-south-africa-1/" title="Tanzania face uphill task against South Africa (1)”>South Africa in closely contested Group B opener (1)”>South Africa (home), and Australia (away).

Sri Lanka might be a good starting point for the turnaround since India have won their last two Test series in the country, in 2015 (2-1) and 2017 (3-0) respectively.

At present, India are placed fifth in the World Test Championship standings, with a point percentage of 48.15 and Sri Lanka are sixth with 41.67.

    Schedule:

    First Test, 15-19 August, Galle

    Second Test, 23-27 August, Colombo
