As Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election, the country
stands at a defining moment. Elections are a cornerstone of democracy, but they
should also reaffirm our commitment to peace, national unity, and economic
prosperity. A peaceful electoral process is not only a political aspiration, it
    is an economic necessity.

History has shown that election-related unrest comes at a
significant cost. Businesses close, supply chains are disrupted, investors
postpone decisions, tourism declines, and thousands of livelihoods are
    affected.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which form the backbone
of Kenya’s economy and account for the majority of employment opportunities,
are often the hardest hit. Recovering from even a few days of disruption can
take months, particularly for informal traders and family-owned businesses.

Conversely, peaceful elections send a strong signal that Kenya
is a stable and reliable destination for investment. Local entrepreneurs are
more willing to expand their operations, financial institutions continue
lending with confidence, and international investors view the country as a
secure place to do business. Stability enables markets to function efficiently,
safeguards jobs, and provides the certainty businesses need to make long-term
    investments.

Peace is therefore an economic asset. Countries that uphold
political stability are better positioned to attract foreign direct investment,
stimulate innovation, and achieve sustainable economic growth. For Kenya, whose
economy relies heavily on agriculture, manufacturing, trade, tourism, and the
digital economy, maintaining peace during elections is essential to protecting
    national development gains.

Peace is not the responsibility of government alone. It is a
commitment that belongs to every Kenyan. Whether you are a political leader,
entrepreneur, trader, youth, voter, religious leader, journalist, or civil
servant, your actions have the power to shape the future of our country.

We therefore call upon all political leaders to champion
issue-based campaigns anchored on respect, tolerance, and national unity.
Leadership is measured not only by the ability to mobilize supporters but also
by the courage to preserve peace, even amidst political competition.

We equally urge the business community to become ambassadors
of peace by keeping commerce alive, supporting dialogue, and demonstrating that
economic growth flourishes where stability prevails. Institutions such as the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC),
    the Independent Electoral and Boundaries
Commission (IEBC), faith-based organizations, civil society, the media,
and business bodies each have an indispensable role in fostering trust,
promoting civic responsibility, and safeguarding our democratic values.

Most importantly, we call upon every Kenyan to reject hate
speech, misinformation, and violence in all its forms. Let us choose dialogue
over division, ideas over insults, and unity over hostility. Our political
choices should never come at the expense of our neighbours, our businesses, or
    our shared future.

The Kenya we build after 2027 will be determined by the
decisions we make today. Every peaceful conversation, every responsible
campaign, every business that remains open, and every vote cast peacefully is a
vote for a stronger economy and a more united nation.

    Let us make 2027 the
year Kenya proves that democracy and prosperity can walk hand in hand. Let us
protect our peace, preserve our businesses, and secure the future for
    generations to come.

    Together, we can
ensure that the greatest victory in 2027 is not the triumph of one political
candidate over another, but the triumph of Kenya itself through a peaceful
democratic transition rooted for by all actors, citizens and stakeholders.
