    Khayelitsha’s COSAT named top-performing Quintile 3 school in South Africa

    Centre of Science and Technology (Cosat) has put Khayelitshaon the map after it was awarded the title of the top-performing Quintile 3 school in the country in the category of Top-Performing Public Ordinary Schools on Friday, 24 July.

    Achievement a testament to dedication, says principal

    The school principal, Tiro Motaung, said they are over the moon. He said the achievement is a testament to the dedication of its teachers, learners, and the broader school community.

    “Cosat beat all the schools. We became the top-performing Quintile 3 school nationwide. They look at output in mathematics and physical science against the bachelor pass rate. Cosat had the highest number of candidates passing maths and physics with a bachelor pass rate out of all nine provinces,” explained Motaung, adding that it is not only about the pass rate of the school, but the quality of the subjects. He stated that they had only three learners who failed maths last year.

    What makes COSAT Khayelitsha stand out

    Motaung stated that the school specialises in maths and physics. “All the learners here are doing maths, life sciences, and physics. And two-thirds of them are doing Information Technology, while one-third does Computer Applications Technology, because they can’t all do Information Technology due to a lack of re

    He stated that the school’s foundation is in maths and science. Motaung urged parents to be involved in their children’s studies.
