JetBlue is updating its fare structure with a new set of branded fare families as the airline prepares to introduce its new domestic first-class product, dubbed BlueFirst, later this year.

The airline intends the changes to make it easier for travellers to compare products ranging from standard economy to Mint business class while also laying the groundwork for BlueFirst, which will fill the gap between JetBlue’s core economy offering and its premium Mint cabin.

JetBlue introduces simpler fare families tied to product class

Under the new booking experience, JetBlue’s customers will first choose a cabin product before selecting one of three fare levels:

The airline is also renaming its standard economy cabin from Core to Main, bringing JetBlue’s product terminology closer to that of other US carriers.

What JetBlue’s new fare tiers mean

Each fare family offers progressively greater flexibility.

    JetBlue’s new fare tiers comprise:

    • Base becomes the entry-level fare with the fewest included benefits. The Mint cabin is the only JetBlue cabin product excluded from the “base” fare tier.
    • Standard includes additional flexibility and customer benefits.
    • Flex provides the highest level of flexibility, including refundable tickets and other premium booking options.

Rather than forcing customers to compare multiple branded fares across different cabin products, JetBlue says the new system lets passengers first decide what onboard experience they want before choosing how much flexibility they need.

    Preparing for BlueFirst

The fare redesign will support the launch of BlueFirst, JetBlue’s first domestic first-class product.

Unlike the airline’s existing Mint business-class cabin, which offers lie-flat seats on selected premium and transatlantic routes, BlueFirst will be installed on aircraft operating routes that currently lack a premium cabin product.

JetBlue says BlueFirst will provide a traditional US domestic first class passenger experience, which likely means recliner chairs similar to long-haul premium economy seating. The airline said it will unveil its new BlueFirst product later in 2026. Mint, which offers fully lie-flat seating, will remain its flagship premium offering.

JetBlue follows industry trend for segmented pricing

JetBlue’s new tiers follow other US airlines’ introduction of segmented pricing, that gives passengers options to save costs and also encourages upgrades through differentiated fare bundles.

Major competitors including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines have all introduced or expanded tiered fare products in recent years as airlines work to increase premium revenue and offset higher operating costs. Fare segmentation has contributed to revenue growth across the US airline industry.

JetBlue believes its simpler shopping flow will make it easier for customers to understand the differences between products. The introduction of a new BlueFirst cabin product positions the airline for future premium expansion.
