Asian Paints Ltd reported a strong start to FY27

Asian Paints Ltd reported a strong start to FY27, with consolidated net profit rising 40% year-on-year to Rs 1,539.3 crore in the April-June quarter, supported by healthy volume growth in its decorative paints business, pricing actions and improved cost efficiencies.

The company’s consolidated net sales increased 17.9% to Rs 10,521.4 crore in the first quarter, compared with Rs 8,924.5 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal.

The decorative business, which remains the company’s core segment, recorded 9% volume growth during the quarter. Calibrated pricing actions helped translate the volume growth into 16.6% value growth.

Industrial coatings also maintained its mid-teen growth trajectory, expanding by more than 16% in value during the quarter.

“We started FY27 on a good note, building on the momentum of the previous quarter and delivering a strong performance across businesses,” said Amit Syngle, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Asian Paints.

Syngle said the company’s performance reflected its focus on innovation, deeper consumer engagement and strengthening its service propositions despite an uncertain operating environment.

The company’s international business also delivered strong growth, with net sales increasing 27.2% to Rs 936.5 crore from Rs 736.1 crore a year earlier. In constant currency terms, international sales grew 20.3%.

The growth was led by operations in Egypt, the UAE, Oman, Nepal and Bangladesh. Profit before tax from the international business almost doubled, rising 94.9% to Rs 74.1 crore.

The Middle East business performed particularly well despite challenges arising from the ongoing conflict in the region, Syngle said.

In the home décor portfolio, the kitchen business reported a 10.1% increase in net sales to Rs 108 crore from Rs 98.1 crore. Its loss before tax narrowed sharply to Rs 0.3 crore from Rs 8.8 crore in the year-ago quarter.

The bath fittings business, however, reported a 4.3% decline in net sales to Rs 84.9 crore, while its loss before tax widened to Rs 8.8 crore from Rs 2.3 crore.

Sales of White Teak declined 7.4% to Rs 18.7 crore, while Weatherseal revenue increased 11.2% to Rs 16.9 crore.

Syngle said Asian Paints’ profitability was supported by measured price increases, a favourable product mix, formulation and sourcing efficiencies and disciplined cost management.

“With volatility in raw material prices, we will stay agile and continue to focus on tech innovation and customer centricity to maintain our saliency in the market,” he said.
