    Today’s Weather Outlook

    July 27, 2026 at 07:35 AM EDT
    By WeatherBug Meteorologist, Alyssa Robinette

    Today's Weather Outlook

The dog days of summer are here! Hot, humid and stormy weather will continue to broil the entire U.S. today.

A low pressure system will drift from the Ohio Valley into the Northeast to start the workweek, while a cold front remains stalled over the Southeast. This will translate into chances of rain and thunderstorms along and east of the Mississippi River. While possible throughout the day, the best chance for rain and thunderstorms will be in the afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms across the Great Lakes, Ohio and Tennessee valleys, and Mid-Atlantic will have the potential to be strong to severe. The main threats within thunderstorms will be damaging winds and large hail. An isolated tornado or two also cannot be ruled out. Torrential downpours will also be a possibility, which could lead to flooding.

Meanwhile, high pressure will control the weather across the western two-thirds of the U.S. However, there will be a surge of monsoonal moisture into the Mountain West, which will trigger scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms in the Rockies, High Plains, Great Basin and the Southwest. Any showers and thunderstorms will be likely be limited to the afternoon and evening.

Otherwise, dry weather will prevail across the rest of the West. Dry but humid weather is in store for much of the Midwest as well as the south-central U.S.

Expect unseasonably hot weather for the Central U.S. on Monday, while near to even slightly below normal temperatures will be found on both coasts.

Highs will be in the 70s and 80s across the Upper Great Lakes, the Ohio and Tennessee valleys, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The immediate West Coast and the higher elevations of the Mountain West will also see temperatures peak in the 70s and 80s. However, the tallest peaks of the Rockies will record highs only in the 60s. Hot 90s and 100s are forecast for the interior Northwest, the Great Basin, California’s Central Valley into the Desert Southwest, the Plains and Mississippi Valley, and Southeast. The typical hot spots of southern California, southern Nevada and southwestern Arizona could end up with temperatures as high as 115 to 120 degrees!
