Md. — Wine, live jazz and the rich history behind one of America’s most influential musical traditions will come together this weekend as the 13th Annual Wine & Jazz at Marietta returns to the Marietta Historic Site & Museum in Prince George’s County

The annual event, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, from 1 to 5 p.m., celebrates <a href="https://absafricatv9491.live-website.com/south-africa-to-spend-r10-billion-to-seal-borders/” title=”South Africa to spend R10 billion to seal borders”>African American jazz heritage while inviting visitors to enjoy performances by local musicians, Maryland wineries, food vendors, artisan vendors and the historic grounds of one of the county’s most treasured landmarks.

In honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary, this year’s celebration will also feature a traditional African drum performance recognizing the African roots of American jazz.

Hosted at the Marietta Historic Site & Museum in Glenn Dale, guests can sample wines from Maryland wineries, browse handcrafted goods from local vendors, enjoy food and explore the museum’s historic property throughout the afternoon.

Marietta provides a fitting backdrop for the event. Built in the early 1800s, the estate was once home to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Duvall. Today, the preserved property tells the stories of both the prominent Duvall family and the enslaved African Americans whose labor helped build and sustain the estate, offering visitors an opportunity to reflect on the people and cultures that helped shape American history.

According to the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the event celebrates African American jazz heritage while highlighting the music’s lasting impact on American culture. Organizers say the addition of traditional African drumming this year is intended to further connect visitors with jazz’s historical origins as the country marks its semiquincentennial.

General admission tickets are $15 and will also be available at the gate while supplies last. Gate sales are cash only. The event is open to adults ages 21 and older. Outside alcohol, pets, tents and large umbrellas are prohibited. A rain date has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, if needed.

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the PG Parks Wine & Jazz at Marietta event page.
