Iran Identifies New Priorities for the Development of Renewable Energy

The 10th International Iran Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition (IRAN REC 2026) has concluded in Tehran. The event brought together government officials, investors, representatives of the private sector and academia. The TV BRICS International Media Network acted as the forum’s information partner.

The central topics of the business programme included the development of the green electricity market and further improvement of electricity trading mechanisms, the participation of industry in the creation of renewable energy facilities, as well as the localisation of innovative solutions and the strengthening of national renewable energy capabilities.

Speaking at the conference, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Head of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organisation (SATBA), Mohsen Tarztalab, stated that the country’s total renewable generation capacity has now reached 5.5 gigawatts. The target of 7 gigawatts by the end of summer remains in place.

In addition, a plan for the development of 10 gigawatts of distributed solar generation was presented to the country’s senior leadership. The plan envisages the installation of solar power plants on the roofs of residential, commercial, administrative and industrial buildings.

The conference also featured discussions on business models, financial instruments, the application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, as well as the construction of distributed generation facilities in industry, agriculture and the residential sector.

In addition to the business programme, Iran REC 2026 included a specialised exhibition showcasing modern technologies, equipment and engineering solutions for the development of renewable energy. The forum also featured thematic panel discussions, presentations by companies and regions, and scientific and educational events aimed at promoting international cooperation and identifying new investment opportunities.

A traditional highlight of the forum was the Iran National Renewable Energy Award ceremony, which recognised organisations and companies that have made significant contributions to the development of the sector and the implementation of environmentally friendly energy solutions.

The Iran REC 2026 Conference was organised by the Iran Renewable Energy Association (IrREA) in cooperation with the Energy Committee of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) and with the support of the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
